Baby Shower at ON

Today is Mommy’s last day at work. After this, it’s waiting time. A loooong waiting time. Yesterday the OB-Gyn at the clinic in Mommy’s company commented that Mommy’s a candidate for Caesarean birth due to the size of her tummy. It kind of irked Mommy since she was not soliciting for any advices. And besides she was not Mommy’s doctor.

Good thing, Mommy's office friends threw her a surprise (literally) baby shower. That took away the irritation. They had cake, pansit and ice cream. What made Mommy even happier was they allowed Mommy to have ice cream (just two teaspoonfuls, Mommy swears).

It was a great way for them to express their goodluck wishes to Mommy. Fact is, Mommy was very touched she almost cried when she saw gifts and food set up for her. She's really happy to have found friends like Tita Yette, Tita Madz, Tita Ty, Tita Mie, Tita Mhay and Tita Kat.

28 wks old and counting....

Good morning Maia!

Today you're already at 28 weeks. Just 12 more weeks of anxiety filled waiting for Mommy and Daddy. But we are patient. Fact is, we are only starting to prepare for your d-day. This weekend we will already prepare the hospital bag for you. Mommy's giddy just thinking about it.

Here's how far you've developed in Mommy's belly:

Your Baby
The eyes are partially open and can perceive light. Your baby's eye lashes and eye brows continue to grow and subcutaneous fat is deposited. If you have a baby boy, his testes will probably begin descending. About 9 out of 10 babies born now will survive with intensive care services and the help of medical technology. Your baby is almost 15 inches and weighs over two pounds.

Mommy Journal 0713

13 July 2008

Mommy is happy today. The spots are now missing. Two days and counting. Plus Mommy does not feel sore anymore and she’s feeling you more often. Almost like every hour and that again is very comforting.

Mommy and Daddy left early today to hear mass and buy food supplies for the week. The grocery is probably the farthest Mommy can go for the next month for now. You always seem to be reminding her to stay at home as often as she can. And Mommy’s listening to you, she will stop being stubborn from this day on. J

Mommy Journal 0711

Good morning baby! Mommy took time off work today because she’s still having those icky and scary brown spots. Sometimes she gets scared that you’re hurting and gets really emotional when that idea crosses her mind. So Daddy tells her to think happy thoughts and always imagine how our life is going to extremely change once you arrive. That makes me really excited. Mommy just cannot wait to see you and hear your first cries. And I swear no matter how hard and loud you cry, Mommy will have the patience to tolerate them. Those little cries will for sure sound like hearing Mom and Dad’s favorite band sing live. J

So anyway, as Mommy is digressing again let us go back to the real purpose of this letter. As your delivery date is approaching really fast…Mommy wanted to chronicle the days before it as much as she can. So she will try to describe to you her daily routine J

Since she did take time off, she had plenty of time to sleep. This morning though is not really different from the other working days. She still had to wake up early to prepare Daddy’s breakfast. Today it is cheese sandwich with lotsa mayo on it. Daddy really likes the bad stuff. But he always promises to start eating healthy, just in time for your arrival date. Hmmm Mommy wonders if that promise will ever come to a close.

Breakfast is the only time Mom and Dad has time to catch up with each other. They exchange stories from the previous day at work. Last night, Daddy had to come home late because he went to dinner with some officemates. Somebody got promoted and promised to treat them to dinner so off they went to this place in Pasay where you get to shop for fresh food and have them cooked while you wait. Daddy even brought some leftovers home for Mommy and Grandma to enjoy. Yeah, there are times when daddy gets a bit thoughtful. Those days are really special for Mommy because they are really rare. But she does not want Daddy to change. Daddy’s just perfect the way he is now. Mommy loves him that way. And hopefully, you will too.

Anyways, after breakfast Grandma woke up too. She’s got so many errands to run today so she wanted to take off early. Grandma’s already going home tomorrow and the next time she’s going to be back would probably be when it’s time for you to come out of Mommy’s tummy. Mommy hopes though that you will remember Grandma’s voice even if she just stayed with us for a couple of days. Grandma is Mom’s and her sibling’s source of strength. And you will really love her when you meet her. She’s very cheerful and full of life.

So anyway, by 8am everybody’s gone and Mommy and yaya are the only ones left in the house. Mom tried to catch more zzz’s but she’s really not used to staying really late in bed so she ended up watching the morning news on TV instead. Mommy notices she’s a bit irritable today. She normally isn’t. But she thinks it’s probably just because of hormones going wild.

By 930, it was getting pretty hot so Mommy had to get up and take a bath. By 945 she took out the computer and started this letter for you. It’s now 957 Mommy wonders what else she can do today. Should she start doing your scrap book already? Should she keep on writing till she runs out of stories to tell? Rain started pouring hard outside. Now she wishes Daddy’s her with her because he likes to cuddle in bed when it’s raining outside. Mommy likes that. You will like that too. Daddy’s extremely sweet when the mood hits him.

Hmmm…now Mommy’s thinking of what to eat for lunch. Her appetite’s been really voracious lately. She gets worried she’d grow really big and find it hard to deliver you. But these thoughts are normal. All that Mommy really wants is for you and her to be healthy come your delivery day so you can enjoy a lifetime of wonderful experiences together with Daddy.

Well, now baby…this note is now a tale. Mommy has to rush to the toilet again. Her bladder’s shouting for release. More stories later. Love you.

Mommy Journal - 062908

We spent the Saturday in Makati again. I also met Kristine in Megamall and Vhyns was really kind enough to accompany me. We exchanged lots of catching up talk during lunch. And just before we parted after a hearty lunch, Tintin handed over the folder of bank notes to me. Yipee…so happy to see my very own souvenir of my beloved alma mater’s 100th year anniversary.

After lunch, Vhyns and I went shopping already! We were supposed to just find a travelling bag for her boyfriend, Dale, but before we reached Sportshouse, Vhyns found nice dresses displayed on one store and dragged me in so we can try them on. We ended up buying 2 dresses each. Mine was an advance bday gift though. So sweet, isn't she?

Then we went hunting for shoes. We went in a couple of stores but I unfortunately do not have the size available for the styles I liked. After that, we went out of each stores we visit with disappointed looks painted on our faces. But then in the end we settled for the thought that maybe we're not meant to find the shoes that we need there. At least, we still have an excuse to shop some more! he he...

We spent 4 great bonding hours at the mall. I went home happy because I finally found me a great bag for my bday. Tibs promised me a bag for my birthday and I was really glad to be bringing it with home already with me. Vhynes was drooling with envy. We capped the day by having our feet enjoy a relaxing hour of foot spa. Yey. It’s really nice to spend a day just pampering myself. :D

Mommy Journal - 062108

I had my first toxoid shot today. That was after waiting for 3 hours for the doctor. Well, really – blame it on the weather. Wind was really at its worst as we view the streets from the clinic but we had no choice but to wait since we really wasted 3 hours sitting and counting ships. Best thing that happened though – I felt the baby’s first movements with my hands. Tibs was already napping and I had to really wake him and forcefully place his hand on the lower right side of my abdomen and make him wait for the short twitches. He was not disappointed. A few minutes after, the baby moved again. And finally, he had that smile plastered on his face. Like he finally, finally felt like he had some sort of participation in this whole journey. It was wonderful. Thank God we had that to enjoy while we endure the wait and pray that we get home safe before the typhoon reaches full blast.

Vitamins prescribed!

I missed my doctor's appointment last Saturday...not because I was too lazy to go but because my doctor had an emergency to attend to. So I had to move it to this Saturday. But since everybody's been complaining of me getting thinner and thinner by the day...I decided to go see our office clinic OB for the meantime.

She was really nice and took time explaining why it is important for me to gain weight at this point in time. I almost cried again though. Not sure if it was the hormones working again or if I just really like I have been a neglectful soon to be mommy by not eating so much to put on at least a pound each week.

Today's the first time for me to hear our baby's heartbeat through the doppler. most of my check ups I only see my baby's heartbeat thru the ultrasound monitor.

I was a bit anxious at first because it took sometime before the doctor found the heartbeat. And I was just really trying to hold my composure and not breakdown. I was almost telling myself to be ready when she tells me the baby's heart is not beating. You can just imagine how relieved I was she told me...there...your baby's heartbeat is strong.

I was prescribed a protein enriched vitamin for now so I could keep up with the weight requirement. I just hope everything turns out well.

Cramp Attack!

Been experiencing some cramping for the past 2 days now. The message boards on Babyfit help take away the panic especially upon reading comments like...this is all normal because the baby is growing twice as much as before.

I just hope our baby's okay. Check up is still a week away. I just get very panicky sometimes.

I wish I had somebody with me other than Tibs sometimes. I mean somebody who has experienced pregnancy already. That way, I rid off the paranoia.

Caffeine temptation

I have been caffeine-free since Mar 8. That makes me sober for 55 days now! Hehe… Quite a feat considering I was guzzling down at the height of my addiction, 4 to 5 mugfulls of brewed coffee daily.

I actually thought I was going to have a hard time giving up this long time addiction. But this growing little parasite inside of me really did amazing changes in my life. Right after confirming my pregnancy, my senses seemed to have blocked the memory of how delightful it is to drink an aromatic concoction of hazelnut, caramel and perfectly brewed espresso.

But today is a different story. My co-worker was complaining of how sleepy she is and decided to fetch herself a cup of coffee. The whiff got me instantly when she got back to her seat holding a steaming mug full of coffee. Then I started thinking, can I really do this? I mean, totally turn my back on the only thing that kept me going for almost half my lifetime? Six more months to go without my fuel??? Is it possible? I am starting to doubt if I do have enough will power to fight the urge. Haha.

But I guess I will. I most definitely will and can with motherhood hormones to back me up. I have started associating my indulgences to poison these days. It’s quite effective because it easily takes off the craving. That means dark chocolates, cheesecake slices, jelly beans, ice cream and all the sugary treats I used to get daily doses of are now off my ‘cant-live-without’ list. I just hope this strategy stays long enough so I won’t have to really mind my weight and my diet.
