The Doctor Is In

Today is community day/trick or treating day in the little miss's school. They are supposed to come to school dressed as their favorite community helpers. Maia chose to come as a doctor. Sadly, I can't be with her again today. Because well -- I have work.

I know that we are always given options. Today I have two: miss work and come in tomorrow. Or come to work today and earn the ticket to miss work tomorrow. I chose the latter. Because the latter would give me more time to spend with the kids (my nephew is here for a week-long visit). I can take them to the museum and maybe if we still have time and maybe if they're not tired yet we can still drop by the zoo. The kid's cousin only comes to visit once a year and I think I owe him too at least a day to come and see things (read: Manila sights).

But missing the kid's school activities always renders me heartbroken. And I tend to beat myself up for stuff like this. Sigh.I know, I know that just like the heartbreaks I felt with all those milestones I missed, I will eventually get over this. I will eventually realize that supermom is really just somebody fictional. And that I should stop aiming to be one. (Today though I will just wallow in this pool of sadness. Sorry for the rather gloomy post. I just need to let this out)

Meantime, thank you Ate Inday for stepping in for us. I hope they make more of you.

Maia's Fave: Dance Music, Stop The Rock

What's your favorite song Mommy?

Well madami but right now it's "Pinwheels", I reply.

Ako mommy, Stop The Rock. Dali play mo ulit! Ang sarap sumayaw! Tawrah sayaw tayo!

Then she goes jumping up and down our bed. She would stop and change her footwork from time to time but she didn't stop dancing till the song ended.

Maybe we should seriously consider enrolling her in a dance class now. What do you think, daddy?

my phone isn't good enough to take photos of her actually jumping and dancing.
had to content myself with this silhouette-ish shot.
After jumping on the bed nonstop for several minutes she puts her hand on her chest and says: ANG GALING O, TUMUTUNOG ANG HEART KO DADDY!
On a rather sadder note, I don't think the rain is gonna let up anytime soon. I felt a bit of gloom when we woke up (a little later than usual today, the day started at 9am in our usually 7am-ish household) this morning. We're stuck at home once again (had to postpone weekend plans again it seems).

And then again (feeling best not to wallow in gloom), looking at the brighter side of things, the rain gives just the perfect excuse to laze around and spend quality (which is always a welcomed idea) time with our loved ones. I'm making us some pasta for late lunch earlier meryenda in a bit. And this morning we had Maia's favorite choco pancakes too (upped the sugar ratio a bit by sprinkling in some mini-M & M's on it but sneaked it a few tablespoons of Flaxseed to keep the healthy vibe on), and the little girl was gushing over how great she was in the kitchen and kept bragging of how good her pancakes tasted. Well she did finish a serving without much struggle so I guess it did taste good.

Stay safe and dry this weekend! Let's hope for a dryer incoming week. (I personally have had enough of the rain)

Of Dreams and Ambitions

As a little girl, I was a big dreamer. I dreamed to change the world. I had a firm belief then that I had an important purpose to this world.

But sadly, I grew up. And some dreams just remain as that. Dreams. Although admittedly that dream to change the world, I partially did hold unto. I held unto it probably to somehow inspire me to always demand more from myself. And to remind me to never do anything to harm the world that I once dreamed to change FOR THE BETTER.

Part of me still hopes to live that dream through Maia. What parent doesn't anyway. But of course, I know where my boundaries lie. And I'd rather see my daughter follow her heart's desire than see her live my dream and be unhappy.

So if she does decide to pursue her dream to be a musician and create beautiful music by playing with sounds, I will gladly support.

Or if she would later on take more to heart her love for dancing and be a ballerina princess that some days she think she really is, that I'd happily support too all the way.

Or if one day she'd reckon her gift was to be an artist and play with colors for people's eyes to feast on, I'd stand by and cheer her on as well.

Today, she decided she wanted to be a nurse. Her grandfather insists she's born to be a doctor. But I know, none of us can really tell her what she should become one day. So we'll just stay here and help her through her day to day life and probably arm her with a lot of confidence so that one day, she WILL find in her heart and mind what she really wants to become.

***forgive this somehow pointless blabber. it's this weather. it's just so conducive for sleeping and that's just exactly what my brain did since early this morning. lolz***
